Stratford al fresco Patio Planter Paintings

Submitted June 14 2020

Idea/Project Title:
Stratford al fresco Patio Planter Paintings

Patio extension walkway design WITHOUT planter paintings:

and WITH planter paintings:

Please provide a brief description of your idea/project. :
An outdoor local art showcase distributed throughout the downtown core. With the Stratford al fresco patio extension project slated to be launched in the coming weeks for many of our restaurants and cafes, the wooden pedestrian walkways that extend into parking spots each have 2 planter boxes that are a perfect opportunity for showcasing local art work on the fronts and backs of each planter (4 artworks per walkway). Existing artwork by local artists and photographers to be collected via website and Call for Art submission forms. A distinguished local jury panel will meet to rank and prioritize the submitted art work. Winning submissions will be paid a license fee and a local printer will reproduce using all-weather UV poster prints to be mounted on the pedestrian walkway planters along with the local artists name and website. Depending on number of applications and quality of work, the art could be rotated and changed up periodically over the summer. At the end of the patio season, the outdoor posters could be auctioned off to benefit local non-profits such as Gallery Stratford.

What is the proposed timeline for your idea/project? :
Launch in 2-3 weeks and remain as an outdoor local art showcase through to the end of October.

Which Provincial reopening phase will allow this idea/project to be launched? :
Phase 2 Stage 2 (current phase) in conjunction with patio extensions.

Briefly describe the potential economic impact of this idea/project for our community. :
This project provides much needed resources for our local artists and photographers, while also leveraging Stratford al fresco infrastructure to beautify our downtown with a highly shareable cultural experience for local residents and visitors. This project also has the potential for earned media to demonstrate how a cultural destination supports its artists during this pandemic.

Please provide any budgeting details you may have, including cost estimates required to implement this idea/project. :
With 11 pedestrian walkways each having 4 art hanging surfaces, there would be a total of 44 artworks. Assuming $250 licensing fee per artwork = ~$11,000. Printing and mounting all 44 pieces is expected to be under $5,000. Admin for Call for Artwork submissions website and promo, jury selection, etc. is expected to be under $2,000.
This project is easy to scale up should there be additional walkways added, or if a periodic rotating art show is desired.

Do you have a project lead or coordinator? If so , please provide contact info. :
Zac’s working on finding a project coordinator.

Please advise if there are any other collaborators or organizations involved in this idea/project. Have they been contacted?:
